Rutgers Pre-College Arts Program

Classes are held on Saturdays, from 10 AM – 1 PM
Rutgers University—Camden Department of Visual, Media, and Performing Arts offers a wide range of innovative visual and performing arts classes during the spring semester. These 8-week courses are designed for high school students and taught by university-level professors.


The cost of this 8-week program is $325.

Rutgers University–Camden Pre-College Arts Program Cancelation Policy:
Cancellations 14 days or more before the first class of the Pre-College Arts Program will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations made less than 14 days before the first class will receive a 50% refund. Animation
Learn the fundamentals of animation and visual storytelling. In this course, you will explore traditional and digital animation techniques ranging from 3D modeling to character animation. You’ll be introduced to the wide range of possibilities the animation industry has to offer while building your foundations using the latest software such as Maya and Z-Brush. Students will collect their best works into an animation demo reel at the conclusion of the semester.

Graphic Design
This class will allow students to learn graphic skills and construct 2D computer designs, visuals, structures, and systems. This course utilizes Adobe Suite Programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator to create both digital and print works. In addition to learning these skills and techniques, students will study the strategies and contemporary aesthetics being used in the Graphic Design field today. Participants will apply this knowledge to their own art and design practices.

Music Technology and Production
Music Technology and Production is focused on the creative use of computers and synthesizers. Students will work with Digital Audio Workstation applications doing recording, tracking, sequencing, editing, sampling, and processing as well as working with notational software. Participants will be working individually and in groups, experimenting with creating contemporary music using industry-standard software. The primary emphasis of this course is learning professional recording studio production techniques.

Filmmaking
This course is designed to introduce film production to students who are interested in making short films. Students will gain a basic understanding of visual narrative, storytelling, camera operation, and editing work in post-production. Participants will have a chance to practice these techniques through producing their own films. By the end of the course, students will complete two major projects that they will have worked on individually and in groups.
